Hotel Belmar
Cheerful and enigmatic, Isla Mujeres is the Mecca of Mexican Caribbean culture, its myriad of colorful stores and breathtaking beaches, make this little part of the world the best antidote for civilization. |
Located in the eastern-most part of Mexico's Yucatan peninsula, this little fish-shaped island right across Cancun is famous for its tranquile turquoise waters and its friendly inhabitants. Some say Isla Mujeres, meaning "isle of women" took its name after finding female figurines in the deserted beaches by Spanish explorers in the 14th century. It is believed that the island was only used as a religious site by ancient Mayan pilgrims.
